When the Resident Evil 2 remake was announced I was speechless, I could not put into words my immense happiness at the thought of enduring the nightmare inducing Raccoon City all over again, undoubtedly one of not only the most popular Resident Evil games but one of the most popular horror games of all time it was only a matter of time before Leon Kennedys first outing received some beauty treatment.

As with many main stream titles these days Resident Evil 2 the remake is going to see the release of a collectors edition to mark this momentous occasion, as an avid collector of these editions of games I was naturally drawn to the collectors edition of one of my favourite horror games of all time. Needless to say I was impressed, however I was also disappointed, allow me to explain.

The collectors edition features the usual contents we would expect to find, art book, soundtrack CD, a figurine and a steel book case. In addition to what I expected to see we also have limited edition R.P.D keys, a pin badge and a poster. Sounds like quite a nice amount of items to find in a collectors edition, truly spoiling the fans with this one, well until you see the items for yourself and the price tag that comes with it.

The Figurine of Leon is 12 inches, while this is a respectable size I would have honestly expected a bit more from it considering the amount it is going to cost fans to actually own it. for the high price of £230 I would have liked to see a slightly bigger, more impressive looking Leon Kennedy, figurines are perhaps the most appealing item in a collectors edition so they need to be good to justify the amount being spent on it. on top of this we have for the most part standard items that appear in near enough all collectors editions made today, otherwise what we have is a piece of paper, a box off keys and a tiny badge, add it all together and what have you got? A £150 collectors edition at best! I will clarify that I like what is in the box, I do think the contents in this edition make for a good collectable, all the items do look to be well designed, just not £230 worth.

I understand that for die hard fans of the series this is a must own and I respect that but on this occasion I am afraid I fall on the side of it not being worth its current price tag. Of course if you do really want this collectors edition and the contents within I do recommend biting the bullet and spending the £230 now rather than £500 further down the line. Some collectors editions may lose value over time if enough of them were made or they were unpopular, I can’t see that being the case with Resident Evil 2. While I am truly looking forward to running through hell all over again with Claire and Leon I will be grabbing the standard copy on this occasion.
