New Tomb Raider game confirmed!!

There have been rumours circulating for quite some time, and finally it has been officially announced that there is a new Tomb Raider game in the works! The new title is called Shadow of The Tomb Raider, it is slated for release on September 14th of this year, not long to wait at all really!

Another date to mark in the Calendar is April 27th, this is when more details about the game will be revealed. Given how huge Tomb Raider is and the high anticipation there will be for its release I think it’s fairly safe to say that it will appear at E3 in June this year.

While Rise of the Tomb Raider may have been a Xbox one exclusive for the first year of its existence the PC and PS4 fans can rejoice in knowing that they will be able to get their hands on Shadow of the Tomb Raider upon initial release this time around, no exclusivity here all three platforms have the same release date, while I have both Xbox one and PS4 so exclusivity doesn’t really affect me I do prefer my PS4 so I am quite pleased that I can grab Shadow for the PS4 instead.

Square Enix had this to say about the new title,

“The game will be Lara Crofts defining moment as she becomes the Tomb Raider.”

That sentence alone has me excited! I have loved the rebooted Tomb Raider series so far, both have been excellent, playing as a young and inexperienced Lara has been an interesting experience to say the least, I certainly can not wait to see the defining moment in her transition into the Tomb Raider we all know and love.

It may interest you all to know that Shadow of the Tomb Raider has got a different developer to the previous two entries of the reboot. Eidos Montreal have the helm for the newest instalment of the franchise, you may know this developer for their work on the games Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Deus Ex: Mankind divided, so they are no strangers to big release games. However I’m not sure having a new developer for this game is the best idea considering how incredible the previous games were but I will reserve my judgment until I experience the game first hand for myself on September 14th.

As for what to expect, I think we can all agree that there will be some sort of supernatural element to it with a mystery for us to unravel, plenty of henchmen for us to take down and there will be no shortage in guns, bows and other weapons for us to utilise on our journey, the caves and tombs we may explore are an absolute given. Based on the quick teaser trailer that has been released I would hazard a guess that we could be in some sort of Aztec setting, if that is correct then I couldn’t be anymore excited if I tried! After receiving this great news I seriously can not wait to go and see the movie this weekend.

Are you excited for Shadow of the Tomb Raider? Do you think Eidos Montreal will do a good job on the newest instalment of a much loved franchise?
