COD: Black Ops 4 officially announced!

Keep October 12th marked in your calendars all you gamers who have a dedication to a certain FPS game series, Call of Duty Black Ops 4 will be released in October of this year and I for one can not wait! Now I can usually take or leave call of duty but I have always been a huge fan of the Black Ops games, they are easily some of the best and most popular games that Call of Duty has to offer. We have gotten used to waiting for a new COD game year on year and in all honesty I was starting think that they were becoming stale, while I enjoyed Infinite Warfare I did think they had gone as far into the suture as they could. I thought that would cause some problems for them, but no, WW2 was released last year, taking COD back to its original roots, and now we have the 4th instalment to the Black ops games coming out, a huge well done to Activision since I honestly thought COD would need a break for a year or two. So far the only platforms it is to be released on are the PS4, Xbox one and PC, perhaps a switch release is to be announced at a later date.
Black Ops is one of my favourites for a simple reason, NUKE TOWN!! One of my all time favourite maps across all FPS games, not just COD. I couldn’t tell you the amount of hours I spent on that single map back in the day with my friends, just us against a whole load of CPU enemies, so much fun! Then when the futuristic Nuke Town came out with Black Ops 3 I was ecstatic, though it wasn’t the same as the original Nuke Town, it almost didn’t feel right to me, didn’t stop me fighting hordes of enemies in that little block.
Black Ops and Modern warfare are really the main COD games that got me into the franchise, Black Ops 4 has real potential to bring me some nostalgia in a sense because of my strong love for the original that was released back in 2010, Treyarch have always done an amazing job on the COD games they develop, I am yet to play a Black Ops COD game that I didn’t enjoy and for that reason I may very well put it on my pre-order list.
All that Activision has revealed for now is that their new title “represents a game changing experience”. Intrigued? You should be, I know I am. If like me you are eager to learn more details of the up coming shooter then another date to mark is May17th, as Activision will be revealing more through a live stream event.

COD is usually released in November, I can’t help but wonder if this early October release could be in response to the release date of one of the most anticipated games of the year Red Dead Redemption 2 on October 26th? one thin is for certain if Black Ops 4 was released a mere week or two after Red Dead then their sales could have potentially suffered.
So are you excited for the new COD game or do you think it could be time for them to take a years break? Let me know in the comments.

  • The last really great COD in my opinion was the first Black Ops, after that COD got worse. The best was World at war which I highly recommend if you haven’t tried it although the multiplayer will be a bit empty.
Interesting idea with fear of competition, maybe the true COD killer isn’t even an FPS.

    • I think releasing them year on year has effected the quality of some of the games. World at war was a very good game from what I remember off it.
I’ve always thought it would be something unexpected that would give COD trouble.

      • I was hoping Titanfall would live up to its marketing because it had a fantastic concept but in putting itself against COD it was like me poking a mountain with a stick. Red Dead may be the biggest thing of the decade with what it has to live up to. Scary if you’re competing.

  • I’m actually a little surprised that there is going to be a Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 considering how poorly received by fans Black Ops III was. Indeed, a lot of people who don’t say Ghosts is the low point of the franchise tend to say Black Ops III is. Granted, it probably still sold well enough, but they were pretty quick to pull the plug on Ghosts when it proved to be a relative failure.

    • I have to agree, I certainly wasn’t expecting a Black Ops 4 but I am willing to give it a chance and see if it can return Black Ops to its former glory. I thought Ghosts was a very poor instalment, I can see why others may have called Black Ops the lowest point though but with 2 prior Black Ops games that proved successful it makes a bit of sense for them to give it one last go.

      • Yeah, I ended up reviewing Ghosts a few weeks ago. It’s pretty bad. It’s far from the worst game I’ve ever played, but I don’t know who I could possibly recommend it to.

Another Black Ops? They’re really beating a dead horse now releasing these games every year to the point where they all fell the same.

    • I’ve always liked the COD games but was always more of a Halo player until Halo Reach came out. Since then I’ve leaned towards Call of Duty but lately I just don’t care enough about the franchise to keep buying the newest one every year. Think it’s time to call it a day on the franchise or like you said take a few years out and come back with a bang

Same except that I was with Halo until 4 dropped. The franchise shoukd take a few years off but it won’t because no matter how bad it is the masses will cop it because they don’t really care. Take the NBA 2k franchise for example. The game always has consistent server problems among other things that never get fixed yet most people will buy it no matter what.

    • I agree, I honestly couldn’t say when was the last time I found the games to feel different to one another. I don’t seem them taking the much needed break anytime soon though.

  • I played COD WW2 and it was awesome from all sides – the story and beautiful graphics. It’s a shame that the new title won’t be from the past. I’m affraid that it’ll be just another bullshit like CoD Infinite Warfare 😀

    • WW2 was a true reform to form, I thought the campaign was brilliant! I’ll keep an open mind for new one cause I enjoy the early black ops games but I think you might be right, they seem to enjoy going futuristic more than using past events 😊
